Better Treatment Through Education
We believe that in-depth patient education facilitates better
medicine and positive outcomes. In other words, the more you
know about prostate cancer—and your own particular form
of the disease—the better your choices for treatment will
be and ultimately your chances for survival.
Customized Treatment For Variable Cancers
Unfortunately, the prostate cancer treatment machine, as it is
today, often shuttles patients into cookie-cutter treatments
before tendering a truly comprehensive diagnosis. For example,
some cancers are termed “localized” before the proper
diagnostic tests are run (often resulting in life-threatening
metastasis) while other men are deemed “hormone resistant” when
they actually aren’t. This can occur due to the lack of
sound information on this disease; the medical community has
traditionally neglected prostate cancer—although times
are changing due to the diligence of many activists. This also
occurs sometimes because physicians simply believe staunchly
in their form of treatment or because a major medical institution
seeks to control treatment variables for further study. The latter
example marks the difference between “treating the disease” versus “treating
the patient.”
Because prostate cancer is such a variable disease,
we believe that the treatments should be equally variable. Therefore,
the focus on “customized” treatment for each case
has been the hallmark of Dr Myers’ practice and the impetus
for all of our publications.
Learning To Survive Through Science You Can Understand
It is precisely because of the current treatment methodology
