a long healthy life. The issue concludes with a discussion of Niacin or Niaspan. |

Number 7 – RT, Part III / Updates on Side Effects
/ Nutrition
If you choose radiation therapy, seek out a center that offers 3-D conformal
radiation therapy or IMRT even if you have to travel to do so. Currently, permanent
(rather
than temporary) seed implantation is supported more extensively by the published
medical literature. Kegel exercises haven’t been proven to prevent post-RP
urinary incontinence in men. A Mediterranean diet combined with Vitamin E and
Selenium will help you slow the growth of prostate cancer. |
 |
|
Issue
Number 6 – Nutrition & Lifestyle Updates
Dr. Myers explains why a regular program of exercise helps you withstand and
recover from prostate cancer treatment. (In fact, a study found that obese men
had 2.5 times the risk of having prostate cancer than non-obese men.) Dr. Myers
also offers updates on how eating fish reduces your risk of metastatic prostate
cancer and why men who eat garlic and onions may have a significantly lower risk
of prostate cancer. |

Issue
Number 5 – Radiation II: IMRT & Radioactive
Seed Implantation
Through the use of very focused radiation techniques like IMRT and radioactive
seed implantation, normal tissue damage can be minimized. Dr. Myers discusses
related issues such as: urinary tract obstruction; bladder urgency and spasms;
blood in the urine; rectal pain; spasms and itching; blood in the stool; radiation-induced
scarring; impotence; Trental; Nitric Oxide; ACE Inhibitors and Aldosterone. |

Issue
Number 4 – Radiation I
Dr. Myers discusses radiation therapy in depth. This issue offers an explanation
of why hormonal therapy improves radiation's ability to kill cancer within the
prostate and why radiation therapy and surgery are equally aggressive approaches
to treating prostate cancer localized to the prostate gland. He concludes that
radiation therapy is a valuable tool for managing cancer that has spread to the
periprostatic fat, seminal vesicles, and pelvic lymph nodes. A warning about
how antioxidants can compromise radiation therapy follows as well as a discussion
of how Viagra can often improve erections when radiation-induced scarring of
the penile artery is the cause of your impotence. |
 |
|
Issue
Number 3 – Radical Prostatectomy II
Should you choose surgery? In this issue Dr. Myers discusses why even urologic
surgeons disagree about who should undergo radical prostatectomy and who should
not. He explains why the benefit of surgery alone now appears to be so limited
that it's possible that radiation therapy, hormonal therapy, or even diet alone
or in conjunction with surgery may be a better choice. He concludes with a discussion
of treatments for incontinence and impotence. |
 |
|
Issue
Number 2 – Radical Prostatectomy I
Dr. Myers offers key information for those considering radical prostatectomy,
including: key questions to answer first; finding out what kind of cancer you
have; discovering
how far your cancer has spread; and finding out if there’s cancer in your
lymph nodes. He concludes with a discussion of Avodart. |
 |
|
Issue
Number 1 – Hormonal Therapy
Dr. Myers discusses how hormonal therapy works. The issue includes discussions
of Proscar Lupron, and Zoladex. |
